According to reports by CBS news and CNN – an internal memo from the State Department’s Office of the Inspector General alleges that senior officials may have covered up or even stopped investigations of criminal misconduct involving illegal drugs, solicitation of prostitutes and even sex with minor children by State Department staff during former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton‘s tenure. The whistle-blower who is providing the documents backing up the allegations is reportedly himself a former senior inspector general investigator.
The charges include an active U.S. Ambassador ditching his “protective security detail in order to solicit sexual favors from both prostitutes and minor children.” According to the memo the security detail “and others were well aware of the behavior” and when an investigation was attempted Patrick Kennedy, undersecretary of state for management, allegedly ordered the investigator “not to open a formal investigation.”
The memo goes on to detail charges of sexual assault on foreign nationals, drugs being supplied to State Department security contractors by an “underground drug ring,” and even a member of Clinton’s own security detail who allegedly “engaged prostitutes while on official trips in foreign countries,” which was concluded to be “endemic” by the inspector general’s agent assigned to investigate. In all instances the investigations were either halted altogether, ended prematurely or interfered with by officials within the State Department.
The State Department, including a spokesman for Hillary Clinton, has denied any wrongdoing claiming that Clinton was completely unaware of any of the allegations OR their corresponding investigations including the case which involved a member of her own security detail hiring prostitutes.
